Look, I know how easy it is to let one frustrating moment overshadow a hundred amazing ones. Our brains are kind of wired that way—like a magnet for the most annoying thing that happened all day.
And trust me, I get it.
Case in point:
Strategic planning with teams? I love it.
There’s something magical about bringing people together, rolling up our sleeves, and creating a plan that actually makes sense. It builds team culture, boosts engagement, and gives organizations a real look at what’s actually happening – not just what the top dogs think is happening.
I am obsessed with this process.
So, when a large company brought me in to help them get organized, fix the “not working so well” parts, and prepare for the “what ifs” before they became “oh no’s,” I was all in.
We kicked things off with a half-day of training, and it was
- People were engaged
- Ideas were flowing.
- Weaknesses were being uncovered (in a helpful way).
- Strengths were being highlighted.
- Real progress was happening.
And then.
THEN.
At the end of a 4-hour session, a middle manager stood up, looked around the room, and said:
“I don’t even know why we’re talking about making changes or what the point of this day was.”
EXCUSE ME, SIR?!
Did you miss the wall covered in ideas? The hush that fell over the room when weaknesses were laid bare? The energy buzzing in the air? Have you even been here for the last four hours?!
I didn’t say that. But I wanted to.
I wish I could tell you I brushed it off, laughed, nodded, and went on with my positive mindset fully intact.
That would be a lie.
That one guy hijacked my brain. He took up way too much real estate in my head for an entire day
I completely forgot how incredible the rest of the team had been. I forgot how hard everyone else worked.
I let his one negative comment drown out an entire morning of wins.
And that’s when it hit me: I needed my own advice.
I should have focused on the countless things that went right. The breakthroughs. The energy in the room.
That’s exactly why I created the journal I’ll be launching on Amazon super soon (eek!).
If we’re not intentional about shifting our focus, the negative stuff will always try to take center stage.
Because our minds need a system reset.
Because we deserve to celebrate the good more than we dwell on the bad.
Because life is too short to let one guy with a bad attitude steal our joy.
I cannot wait for you to get your hands on this journal. It’s designed to rewire your brain so you focus more on wins, gratitude, and momentum.
The stuff that actually moves you forward.

Want to see how powerful a gratitude habit can be? Join me in this simple challenge (no eye-rolls allowed!):
📝 Each night before bed, write down:
✅ Three things that went well today
(even the tiniest wins count!)
✅ One thing you’re grateful for
(bonus points if it’s a person—tell them!)
✅ One potential win for tomorrow
(because setting good intentions matters)
Try it for three days and see what happens! Then hit reply and tell me how it’s going—I’d love to hear from you!
