January hasn’t really given me the option to slow down. So the whole “NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, NEW…blah, blah blah” didn’t hit the way I dreamed it would on January 1st.
Honestly, I still feel like I’m in the grind of the back-to-back holidays – except now, I don’t even know what we’re prepping for…
…and I definitely missed the decoration sale for it at Hobby Lobby.
I’ve decided this might just be my season of life and business right now.
There’s urgency in the basics – the kind that doesn’t wait politely, because they have to be handled, whether you feel rested or not.
The pace hasn’t changed. But what is requiring my attention has.
Less business hustle.
More family logistics.
More full evenings.
More everyday
system struggles.
THIS SEASON HAS REQUIRED ME TO PUSH THROUGH.
Not in an
“I’m going to romanticize the grind” way,
but in a
“I’m going to show up anyway” way.
YOU KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.
I don’t get to pause neatly right now.
Reflection isn’t happening in long stretches of quiet goal setting. It’s happening in fragments – between basketball practice and homework help. During car rides. Late-night thoughts. Those few seconds where I catch myself exhaling and realizing I’m tired in a way that rest alone won’t fix.
And it was in one of those moments that I noticed something important:
Even when life won’t slow down, we still need moments to look back.
Because without them, everything starts to feel like survival instead of progress.
I had to stop and ask myself:
“What would I say to a client right now?”
The answer was annoyingly simple.
HERE IT IS:
- There is power in taking a beat, even a small one, to rest and re-invest.
- There is value in naming (out loud, to yourself or someone else) what you’re proud of.
- There is confidence that comes from recognizing growth you didn’t slow down long enough to notice.
Research published in the Journal of Applied Psychology found that reflection can increase future performance by 23%.
I know what you’re thinking — “Reflection doesn’t change the fact that I have all of these other urgent tasks to do and even less time to do the things I need to be doing!”
And you’re right.
But reflection does help us reconnect to our purpose, which is crazy important when you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off.
And this is exactly where most teams – and leaders – get stuck.
So many business owners and leaders are doing everything right:
- Working hard
- Showing up
- Investing in their people
…and still feel like progress is slower than it should be.
Most of the time, it’s not a motivation problem. It’s not a capability problem. It’s a clarity problem.
Your team can’t align to what hasn’t been clearly defined.
And leaders shouldn’t have to carry the entire vision around in their head.
That’s why strategic planning matters.
Not as a buzzword. Not as a binder collecting dust. But as intentional time to pause, think, and build direction your team can actually follow.
That’s why I use Focus Pillars in my strategic planning work.
Focus Pillars are
3–5 shared priorities that guide how your team
- Communicates
- Makes decisions
- Moves forward together.
When I come in to facilitate them, we don’t just talk about vision.
We create clarity your team can actually use every single day.
And here’s the part I don’t want you to miss:
For the month of January only,
I’m offering
special pricing on
half-day and full-day strategic planning sessions.
If you’ve been saying,
“We’ll slow down and plan later…”
this might be your later.
So if you’re entering the rest of this year with:
- An unfinished to-do list
- Cold coffee on your desk
- And people still looking to you to lead well
Here’s your three-step reset – no retreat required:
Communication
Ask your team: What are you proud of from the past year?
Let their answers ground you.
Connection
Meet with your team and create a focus everyone can get behind.
Use that conversation as a compass.
Confidence
Celebrate the progress you made while pushing through.
That kind of growth counts! Don’t disregard it.
Your challenge isn’t to find hours of time in your schedule for reflection.
It’s to take
one intentional moment this week to look back before charging forward.
Even five minutes now can change how you lead tomorrow.
And if this is the year your team needs clarity, alignment, and shared direction, I’m booking 2026 strategic planning sessions now.
Pssst…
If you reserve your strategic planning session by the end of this month, you’ll receive a $1,000 discount.
Focus isn’t a feeling. It’s a decision.
Let’s build focus that holds strong, even when life refuses to slow down.
